This vintage male nude beefcake photograph by photographer DON WHITMAN, dating from the late 1940s or early 1950s, and features muscular model RAY ROYAL in a classic studio pose.
The reverse is stamped "Western Photography Guild" from Series 18, No. 4. This print is from the pre-zip-code era confirming that this is an early print for the studio.

Whitman described Royal as follows:
Your letters asked for him—here he is! A typically American, handsome youth, but possessing physical development far beyond his age—Ray Royal. At 21 a paragon of virile yet graceful masculinity and beautifully molded musculature. Amazing pectoral development, wonderful shaped arms, chiseled waist, and powerful sweeping lines.

Whitman's Western Photography Guild images are some of the most photographically beautiful and collectible nude male images of the mid-20th Century. The deep, clear sky of the American West played as much of a starring role in Don Whitman's photographs as did his male models. One could almost hear the music of Aaron Copland swelling in the background as the hunky giants wrestled and danced along the ridges of the Rockies.
Condition
The 4-by-5-inch vintage photograph is expertly printed on heavy stock and is in very good condition. Quality and clarity are very good.
