Can a four-door American sedan challenge European performance cars? The Road & Track writer put it this way: "Its sedan configuration, handsome interior finishes and options, and most important, its rear-wheel-drive layout, make the Charger the only domestic model outside of Cadillac to challenge the European makes. Hogwash, you say? Compared with the 2010 BMW 550i tested in our last issue, not only do the two 4-doors weigh exactly the same, the Charger's performance numbers are in the same league as the 5 Series, all for K less. If you're looking (Far) East, the Infiniti M56... still rings up dollar signs on par with the Bimmer. Taking those financial facts into consideration, this makes the uniquely American Charger a sweet compromise for those of us living with hypotheticals."

The condition of the car's exterior non-metallic black paint shows ample evidence of meticulous owner care: the finish is uniformly glossy with no signs of wear or damage. There are no dings or dents on the body. Panel fit is excellent. The uninterrupted black from grille, across the hood and roof, to the rear-deck spoiler makes for a somewhat threatening appearance on the road. The "Charger" and the red "R/T" emblems-the latter in red to designate the optional and highly desirable Road and Track package-reveal the whole truth: This isn't just a fast-looking car, this is a very fast car. Most traffic will only get a glimpse at the full-width, 168-LED taillights above the dual exhaust tips. Tinted cabin glass and all lighting lenses are free of cracks or other damage. Chrome, 5-spoke factory 20-inch wheels are mounted with Fortune Viento® 245/45R20 high-performance all-season tires.
Inside the black theme continues. All four doors are trimmed in black with leather inserts in an attractive diagonal pattern. Leather seats-well-bolstered buckets in front and a 2-passenger bench in back- with suede inserts add a black-on-black look. A multi-function steering wheel frames the driver-centric cluster of analog instruments including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6,000-rpm-redline tachometer. The large, digital-information screen occupies the center pod in the dash just above the HVAC controls. The shifter for the 5-speed automatic transmission is console-mounted surrounded with textured brushed-metal trim. Cabin carpeting is black and shows virtually no wear.
Under the hood, the 5.7-lier, 370-horsepower (with 395 ft-lbs of torque) Hemi V8-capable of 0-60 acceleration in 5.4 seconds-occupies a showroom-new appearing engine bay. All equipment is properly installed with no obvious modifications. Viewed from below, the chassis is similarly clean, undamaged, and showing only minor surface rust on some untreated metal. The factory-installed, full-length, dual-exhaust system shows absolutely no compression damage as would likely be the case had the car been too aggressively driven or tracked.
