magnificently detailed statue of Jizo, beloved Asian Mahayana bodhisattva/Buddha
especially beloved in Zen (Japanese) and Chinese Buddhism
One of my buyers recently deciphered the very fine writing on the sides of Jizo's robe:
When I see the misery of those in this world their sadness becomes mine.
Oh that my monks robes were wide enough to gather up all the suffering people in this floating world.
Nothing makes me more happy than the vow to save everyone
Jizo is a protector of travelers, women and especially children
designed and created in a small studio in Oregon
made from a superior quality "ivory look" resin
the statue is engraved on the bottom with the words "most compassionate Jizo bodhisattva" with this mantra below

There is a tradition in Zen monasteries in Japan of offering Jizo ceremonies to help ease the grief of women who have lost children
Jizo's familiar staff, called a shakujo in Japanese,  is a monks staff hung with metal rings, used to alert insects and small animals of his approach, so that he will not accidentally harm them
